After completing his articles with
the firm, Patrick joined as an Associate in 2007. His practice
areas include labour relations, criminal law, and construction
law.
Patrick obtained his LL.B. from the University of Western Ontario
after receiving his B.A. (Hons.) in Political Science and Law & Society
at York University. At law school, Patrick worked as a Caseworker
and Supervisor at Community Legal Services in the areas of criminal
law and civil litigation, representing low-income clients in summary
conviction offences, Small Claims Court matters, and in disputes
before the Landlord and Tenant Board. He taught community groups
about their rights through the Community Legal Education Project
and led a research team for Pro Bono Students Canada. On graduation,
Patrick received the Labour Law Achievement Award and the Brad Hodgson
Civil Litigation Award.
While articling with the firm Patrick co-authored a paper on the
protection of persons with disabilities from various forms of abuse
through the criminal justice system. He was also closely involved
in the representation of university sector researchers and Canadian
actors before the Ontario Labour Relations Board, and has appeared
before the Nova Scotia Labour Relations Board and the Newfoundland
and Labrador Labour Relations Agency. He has also been a guest speaker
at the Canadian Labour Congress Arbitration School for the past two
years.
Prior to joining the firm, Patrick served as a Shop Steward for
several years with the United Food & Commercial Workers Canada
Locals 175 & 633, representing retail grocery workers. He was
also involved in UFCW Canada’s Youth Internship Program, which
included training in organizing techniques and representation issues
to young union members. Patrick remains committed to the protection
and development of workers’ rights and to the education and
mobilization of grassroots members in the labour movement.
Patrick is currently a member of the Canadian Association of Labour
Lawyers, the Criminal Lawyers Association, and the Canadian and Ontario
Bar Associations.
