Jo-Anne
Pickel is an Associate at Cavalluzzo Hayes Shilton McIntyre
& Cornish LLP. She articled with the firm in 1998-99 and
was called to the Bar in 2000. As a member of the firm’s
Research Group, her practice focuses on written advocacy, legal
research, and providing advice to clients in the fields of labour
and employment law, administrative law, professional regulation,
constitutional law, human rights, and pension and benefits law.
She also regularly acts as co-counsel for unions in administrative
tribunal and judicial review proceedings.
Jo-Anne
is a member of the firm’s Professional Regulation and
Pension and Benefits practice groups. Her professional regulation
practice focuses on providing advice on a wide range of labour
and professional discipline matters to unions representing nurses
and teachers. Jo-Anne also regularly provides advice to the
firm's pension clients as part of her pension and benefits practice.
Prior to
joining the firm, Jo-Anne completed a doctoral degree in law
at the University of Toronto. She also taught law at Carleton
University and was a Senior Advisor with the National Judicial
Institute for the design and delivery of continuing legal education
programs for judges.
Jo-Anne
has published numerous articles and case comments on labour
and constitutional law issues in labour law journals and university
law reviews. She plays a central role in providing updates to
the firm’s lawyers and clients on legal developments relating
to the firm’s practice. She is the editor of the firm’s
Human Rights Update and a regular contributor to the firm’s
Update for Professionals. She is also the co-author of the firm’s
Guide to the Local Health System Integration Act.
