Grassy Narrows First Nation – Asubpeechoseewagong Anishinabek – files lawsuit against the provincial and federal governments, arguing they have violated their Treaty rights and other legal and constitutional duties by failing to protect against and remedy the effects of decades of mercury and other contamination of Grassy Narrows’ lands and waters. Co-lead counsel Adrienne Telford says: "If this was Ontario cottage country, the river would have been cleaned up decades ago, the pollution stopped and the harms properly compensated. Instead, we see serial failures on the part of government to do the right thing".
